The grasses and nuts that make whiskey and other spirits
I love working on consumer products, even though they're not necessarily the most science illustrator-y thing I do. The designers are amazing, and I usually get samples. That's all definitely true when working with the New Brighton Distillery ! So far I've made illustrations for spirits made with barley, wheat, rye and corn, and most recently for brandy and hazelnut whiskey. Red Butte Garden signage at the University of Utah
This project is actually from a few years ago, but I just got images of the final signs the other day from the designer, so this is in the category of "better late than never!" This project was actually quite challenging, as I really wanted to get the action right. The subject matter is the Bonneville Cutthroat Trout, which is the state fish of Utah. They're similar to other cutthroats but are more pale, and are thought to have originated in Lake Bonneville.
